Course Customization

Customized courses provided for hosting on your secure intranet or on your LMS include your:

  • choice of up to 10 modules
  • logo
  • security contacts
  • security policies
  • choice of level of difficulty in quiz questions.

The course length depends on the number of modules selected and the depth of the material about each topic. We recommend 45 to 60 minutes of of an online awareness course as an annual refresher, and 60 minutes for a new employee orientation course. If courses are provided more than once per year, the courses could be as short as 20 minutes and cover a few topics for each release.

Mascot for NRC Computer Security AwarenessCustom courses also allow the choice of graphics style. We offer unique, original graphics created by professional artists. We can also provide images based on ones from photo stock companies. Course graphics reflect the diversity of the work force and include a wide range of characters (men, women, animals, and various ethnic backgrounds). Graphics can be produced as: illustrations, cartoons, photographs, watercolor paintings, or mixed media.

Answers to quiz questions can contain animated graphics or still images to encourage and reward course takers. Each quiz question answer has different graphics for correct and incorrect answers.

On one course, we worked with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to develop the character, "Cyber Tyger," as a mascot for NRC's security awareness program. Cyber Tyger was introduced to NRC through the online awareness course. Cyber Tyger is now used by several Federal organizations.

NII Hosted Custom Courses Include These Extra Features

  • Learners can control whether or not non-navigational graphics appear in their view of the course.
  • Learners can also change backgrounds (e.g., from a light background to a dark background to ease eye strain for those with photophobia).

Example of light and dark backgrounds

  • The course can include a statement allowing course takers to acknowledge their IT security responsibilities. To do so they must take an action (select a checkbox or radio button).
  • The course can contain up to 3 optional bonus questions that add a gold star per question answered to the course taker's completion certificate.

Course completion certificates

  • Course modules can include survey questions that show immediate results.
  • Feedback is available on every course page.
  • Metrics are generated by the feedback from course takers and from bonus and survey questions as well as by the detailed course evaluation.
